General Information:
Libraries with an interest in joining ListenAlaska must become Voting members of ALN and pay annual membership dues. Membership information can be found here.
For the first year, there is a $1500 one time participation fee and an additional $1500 to purchase content or copies for the ListenAlaska collection. Renewal fees are $3000 each year to add to the collection. These funds are pooled and used to purchase titles or additional copies.
Participating libraries are responsible for selecting titles for purchase throughout the year to add to the collection.
Requirements for patron downloads:
To download audiobooks or music, patrons must first download an OverDrive media console on to their own computers. There are three different consoles; one for WMA format audiobooks, one for MP3 format audiobooks and one for WMA format music. MP3 format music is not yet available. OverDrive Media Consoles utilizes Windows Media Player 9 Series (or newer) to play files.
Please note: Information about installing OverDrive Media Consoles and other FAQs can be found here.
In addition to downloading a media console, download speed needs to be considered. Each part of an OverDrive WMA Audiobook is roughly 17 Megabytes and contains 1 hour of content. Each part of an OverDrive MP3 Audiobook is roughly 35 Megabytes and contains 1 hour of content. To determine if local download speeds are reasonable for your location, enter filesize information in the download speed calculator below
